VeriFone’s PAYware Mobile is a popular mobile credit card processing app among on-the-go merchants. Previously, PAYware Mobile was only available for the iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Great news coming from Verifone this week…the PAYware Mobile App is now compatible with BlackBerry Smartphones!
Our BlackBerry clients who have been holding out for the PAYware Mobile credit card processing app can now start accepting all major credit cards by keying in the transaction. Verifone is expected to have a PAYware Mobile Swipe for the RIM BlackBerry this summer.

Square Credit Card Reader Versus PAYware Mobile Encryption Sleeve
The Square credit card reader has been getting a great deal of attention these days, giving rise to many questions here at PaymentMax about the differences. Here is a look at the differences between the Square credit card app and reader and Verizon PAYware Mobile encryption sleeve and mobile credit card processing app.
1. Transaction Disputes-Square has known issues with transaction disputes. First, if you have the tip function enabled customers will see a 40% increase on the authorization of their card. Customer’s are generally not happy with any authorization over the amount of the purchase. This can spark disputes.
Second, if a transaction was not completed using Square. The transaction authorization may pend on customer’s bank account for a few days. Pending authorizations tie up customer’s money and will most likely cause issues, especially for uncompleted transactions.
2. Stylus- PAYware mobile offers a stylus pen for capturing customer’s signatures. Square requires customer’s to use their finger.

4. Delayed ACH-Square (which is not a merchant account) does not put a limit on how much you can accept with their service, but it will hold any processing funds over $1000 for 30 days. In some cases 45 days. PAYware mobile requires a merchant account, and depending upon the provider- funds may deposit next day with no automatic hold structure.
5. Twitter Account- Square requires a Twitter account before signing up for Square. PAYware mobile does not require a Twitter account to process credit cards.

6. Compatible Devices-PAYware Mobile is compatible with iPhone 3, 3GS, 4 and ipad, ipod touch (manually entry). Square is compatible with the same Apple devices and some Google Android smartphones.

Mobile Credit Card Processing-PAYware Mobile Receipt Questions
A great question I received in the office today was about PAYware mobile credit card processing receipts, and if they are customizable. The answer is, “absolutely”!
Mobile merchants accepting credit cards on their iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs will email customers their sales receipt. The receipt will contain all of the necessary information required by payment processing regulations, but the header and footer area can be customized to meet the needs of the merchant.
To customize receipts the merchant must be logged in to the PAYware Connect gateway, and from there enter the Merchant Portal section.

PAYware Mobile Credit Card Reader and iphone 4 Compatibility
Currently the PAYware mobile encryption sleeve (credit card reader) is only compatible with the iphone 3G and iphone 3GS.
PAYware mobile has an iphone 4 credit card reader in the works, and PaymentMax will be one of the first to offer it to clients.
The iphone 4 is significantly different than the iphone 3G, 3GS and any attempts to use the encryption sleeve with the iphone 4 may void warranties for either device.
If you would like to accept credit cards on your iphone 4, you may do so with a manual entry of credit card data using the PAYware mobile application.

Payware Mobile Encryption Sleeve Options
Mobile Merchants using their iphone 3G (or iphone 3GS) and the Payware Mobile encryption sleeve to swipe credit cards have a few program options they should know about.
The slide time out function and the submit after card function. You can find these card reader program options at menu, set-up, secure card reader on the iphone 3G, 3GS.
Here is a look at what they do.
1. Slide Time Out is the amount of time the application allows the user to swipe the credit card. There may be times when there is difficulty reading the credit card track data. The default value of 30 seconds can be adjusted for a longer period of time. However, longer slide time out times can deplete the smart phone battery charge faster.
2. Submit After Card- When this feature is turned on, the credit card transaction will automatically be transmitted to Payware connect for authorization after the card has been swiped through the card reader. The submit after card function eliminates the need to push submit after each transaction.
Most merchants will not need to change these default settings, but it never hurts to know your card reader options.
